Frequently Asked Questions, (FAQs)

How to Get Started ...

I am new to genealogy and would like to know where to get started in this County?

First, start with what you know about yourself, your parents, and their parents. It's easier if you print off an Famiky Tree Chart [free from FamilySearch.org, more]. Fill in as much information as you know. Use a pencil right now. Don't be discouraged about what you don't know.

Also, explore this site's Resources. In this section you will also find many links to great sites for beginners. Also, just as important, you should post a query on the query board, join the email list and ask questions about your ancestors there. It has been my experience that the more places you ask the question, the better your chances of My getting an answer.

You can also check out this page: Tips for Research in this County.

Questions most asked ...

I don't see XXX church or cemetery on your list.

If you do not see additional information, no one has sent that information to me to post.

The pictures are so tiny, I can't see them.

They are "thumbnail" pictures. Click on the picture for a larger view.

How do I submit information to you?

You can type the information in an email to me or attach a document (.doc, .txt) to the email. The County Coordinator's email is listed under "Contact Us" in bottom section of most pages.

I need ...

I am looking for information about XXX.

Unfortunately, if you don't see it on the site then I don't have any information about it. I do not live in this county, so am unable to check other resources. You can also give additional information here, just in case you do research for your county and do live in the county.

Can you send me a marriage license (or birth certificate, death certificate, court document) for my ancestor?

No, but if those happened in Missouri, there is a good chance they are available online. Links to those records can be found on this site's Resources & Records page.

Also, check with the county courthouse in order to obtain original documents. You can find contact information for Sullivan County on the Addresses and the Court pages.

Can you look some information up for me?

If it's not on the site, then I don't have the resource. You could also write the Library or the Genealogy Committee, see the Addresses page.

Tell Me About It!

If you have questions or problems with this site, email the County Coordinator.
I can't fix it when I don't know it's broken. Please do not ask for specfic research on your family.
